Preview: The 12 tribes of the Island of Malingorus Mordeaux
So back in 1st Edition Pathfinder I had a player wanted to play "A panda person... like Kung-fu Panda" and while I found some nifty homebrew stuff I also had the Advanced Race Guide, and all the rules for race creation...
So I made him a Panda-man, another player wanted a Penguin person... so she got her wish too... and then it spiraled from there. I made a quick back story and shunted this island into the world of Golarion for a fun game that is still discussed today.
So when I decided I was gonna use Second Edition Pathfinder as a vehicle to potentially publish some works one of the first projects I decided to flesh out is this one.
So with the 12 Tribes, I am making 12 ancestries to go with the Pathfinder Second Edition setting. And let me tell you... it is so much harder than Races in 1e. In 1e, you plug in some abilities and just go. following a very formulaic system they set up.
With 2e that system is still there, but on top of the base stats you have to create heritage options, and then Ancestry Specific Feats for your players to choose from as they grow these characters.
As I work on this, I plan on dropping tidbits of what I create to hopefully get some feedback, ideas, or maybe even interest. I have 0 funding for this, and 0 deadline so it'll be a slow process... mainly so my anxiety doesn't put too too much pressure on something I'm trying to do for funsies and maybe a little profit. Because Step 3 is profit!
Here is your bit of tid for the first ever post about the 12 Tribes, and the island they call home.
The Island
The creation of The Island was one of necessity for the Grand Transmuter Mordeaux. After years of experiments in the city, someone put together the disappearances, the strange creatures that adventurers kept having to fight in the sewers and the city, and the missing transients, animals, and occasional townsperson.
They ripped The Island from it’s earthly confines, and ensorcelled it to be a portable, floating fortress where they weren't bound by natural law or the laws of so called, “civilized society”. The less evolved didn’t see the progress in their experiments, only the failures.
From their years of study, they utilized elementals to help terraform the island into 13 different biomes, 12 on the outer ring, with a barren wasteland comprising the inner ring leading to a tall tower. They did this because they were ready to begin their life’s work. To create creatures that can not only sustain themselves in natural habitats, but that can reproduce and thrive as any other natural species.
They went about stocking the island with wildlife from the far reaches of the material planes they had explored, and grabbing sentient test subjects from shipping lanes. Once enough genetic material was had to work with, the island no longer appeared.
This was a millennia ago, and suddenly the island has resurfaced. Filled with interesting creatures who are curious about life beyond the only land they have known for so long. These creatures are eager to explore, and interact with the world, but there is one warning for those coming to The Island… Never approach the tower, for the tower is death.
